L. Wesley Harris Jr., Ph.D.

Educate. Engage. Empower.

It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences.

Welcome to my website!

Hire me! I am Dr. L. Wesley Harris Jr., a recent graduate (May 2021!) of the Ph.D. in the higher education administration program in the School of Education at Iowa State University. My dissertation explored how Black undergraduate students at historically and predominantly white institutions conceptualize their racial identity and the impact of their meaning-making on their college experiences.

As a scholar-activist who is committed to justice, my scholarship employs (critical) qualitative research methodologies to explore (in)equity in higher education. My teaching and praxis also involve understanding the connections between the individual and institutional to build coalitions to act in solidarity with others across difference. Ultimately, I strive to educate, engage, and empower students and communities through our collaborations.

I successfully defended my dissertation on January 21, 2021, and graduated on May 7, 2021. I am pursuing career opportunities in higher education/student affairs. Ideally, I will be able to secure a scholar-practitioner role at an institution committed to equity and student success. Hire me!
